Tenerife is the largest of Spain's Canary Islands, facing West Africa. It is dominated by Mount Teide, a dormant volcano that is the highest peak in Spain. Tenerife is best known for the Santa Cruz Carnival, a huge pre-Lenten festival with parades, music, dancing and colorful costumes. The island has many beaches (with sands varying from yellow to black) and resort areas, including Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas.
